MarsDragoner Medieval Journeys is one of the quintessential dungeon spells. The epitome of dark medieval magic might tinged in an ancient soundscape and grim, vividly haunting melodies. This is well known so onwards to the covers. At some points they differ greatly from their paragons but capture the spirit of the original recordings really well and I think the artists chose incredibly fitting songs for their usual style. Truly an excellent cornerstone release with worthy bonus material. Favorite track: Lost In My Dreams.

Raw epic dungeon synth classic from the 1990s. A mysterious lofi medievalism is coupled with black bombastic atmospheres and strong cathartic moments for the solitary journey to a long forgotten past. Gothmog is the dark atmospheric solo project of RAL from Depressive Silence and Mightiest. 'Medieval Journeys' was the only release of the project, which only saw limited proliferation with an underground tape release in 1998. It has since become one of the most highly regarded albums of enigmatic electronic music from the 2nd wave black metal scene.

As it has now been 25 years since the release, it seems fitting to do this reissue in a similar way as the 2021 reissues (GON072 and GON078) of Solanum - the solo project of the other member of Depressive Silence: The full album on the A-side, and newer interpretations on the B-side; this time Lord Bakartia, Taagebue, Arthuros and A Spell Enraged.

A dreamy, beguiling, nostalgic dungeon synth quest through the shires. But, it's so much more than that. The LP incorporates some unique key changes, field recordings and a lot of Mort Garson style synth work. It sometimes reminds me of old 70's PG horror soundtracks. My favorite out of the three I believe.The sound is more aggressive and fits the cover art of what looks like a perilous journey for the protagonist. Fits well at being the second in the trilogy of albums. Every song is good and the cassette tape and package is of good quality. A Great buy that deserves a vinyl edition. Joshua Laleina

I love the mix of quiet melancholy and soaring wonder here. Listening makes me feel like I am looking up at the night sky on another world, watching impossible boreal colors dance along the horizon while tall trees sway in the keening wind, and gray-cloaked figures add their own long-dead voices to the joyful lament.
